Conifers are most rewarding and require very little maintenance. They usually dominate the garden.
A green lawn is costly to maintain and requires regular watering and fertilizing .The bald patches must be sown with new seeds.

Planting position in the garden
The bottom layer
The bottom layer composes of flowers which brighten the garden. These are mostly rock garden plants, bulbs, water and bog plants.
Middle layer
It should consist of the loveliest flowers which can also be used for cutting, like roses, perennials, tulips, gladioli, dahlias, climbing plants etc. These should be planted in a well-defined bed.
Top layer
It is composed of ornamental shrubs and trees. It is the main structural element. As full-grown trees are difficult to move, their growth rate and final size should be kept in mind while planting.
Boundary
A defined boundary is usually a necessity, without which even the best of gardens look unfinished. Hedges, wooden fences, wire fences and iron railings or brick walls may be used.
